Negative taken A.H. Thomasson and Son Tailors located at the corner of Main Street and the railroad in Monticello, Drew County, Arkansas. This photograph was made ca. 1910-11 and includes Robert Craig (an employee, #1), Aaron Hood Thomasson (#2) and James Ernest Thomasson (#3). The Census from 1910, indicates that Aaron Thomasson was 68 years old at the time of the Census. Aaron Thomasson was born into slavery in York County, South Carolina, the son of his master's brother and a slave. Aaron Thomasson learned tailoring and made uniforms for the Confederate soldiers. Aaron Thomasson was married to Harriet Thomasson of Florida, with whom he had seven children on a one acre lot in Monticello that was given to him by his former master after the Civil War. The grandson of Aaron H. Thomasson and son of James (Jimmy) Edward Thomasson (b. July of 1861, Monticello, Arkansas), James Ernest Thomasson stands with his grandfather in front of the business. James Edward Thomasson took over the business after Aaron H. retired, then James sold the shop in 1927. Robert C. Craig was born in South Carolina in April of 1862. Robert Craig married Mary J. Craig also of South Carolina.
